This is what I did:
Download the file and save it in your home directory. Open a terminal in the same directory.
Type in that terminal:
chmod +x ./GoogleEarthLinux.bin
then type (still in the same directory from your terminal):
Till some days ago there was an error in the installations that caused GE to crash on linux Ubuntu systems. I've installed the newest binary without any problem now. If there is any problem this is the solution:
Then DON't start the program yet, but remove or rename the file
When this is finished, Google Earth 5 beta will run.
